Fridge Version 2.0
August 2002: Much to my dismay, my beer fridge pretty much died. It still runs, but won't maintain a decent temperature. It was originally set at around 42°F with a 4° differential, meaning the temperature range should've been 42°F to 46°F. It was running constantly and only staying in the mid fifties, not good. At least I got a couple of good years out of it. I'm going to attempt to use it as a fermentation chamber for ales. I'm pretty sure it can handle 65 to 70 degrees -- we'll find out. Now the search began for a "new" beer fridge. I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money, but I didn't want another unit I'd have to replace again soon. I started calling around to the used appliance guys in the phone book, only to find a good number of them out of business, who knew? I managed to come up with another 18 cubic foot fridge that was only a couple of years old, but I ended up spending $150. The appliance dealer gave me a 1 year warranty on the thing, even after I explained that I'd be drilling a bunch of holes in it. Seemed like a good enough deal for me.

This time I decided not to remove the shelves from the door, I just drilled the holes for the taps through the front of the door and then right through the interior shelf. It worked out well. I did remove all the regular shelves and I had to build wooden platform to rest the kegs on. The fridge now hold 6 kegs. I also kept the CO2 tank outside of the fridge with a small hole drilled in the side for the CO2 line. Take a look at the new fridge from the front and from the side.
