MLT Version 3.0
Well I just couldn't leave well enough alone. I needed a cooler in a hurry so I disassembled my MLT. Since I wasn't planning to brew for a while I didn't reassemble the MLT, I just decided to leave the cooler as it was. Then I came across a 10 gallon Rubbermaid cooler at a local hardware store and I bought it. You can probably guess what happened next. I made the Rubbermaid cooler my new Mash Tun. This time I took the easy way out and rather than spending the time making a new manifold and bulkhead fitting I purchased a Bazooka T™ and a Kewler Kitz™ Bulkhead Fitting from Alternative Beverages and now the inside looks like this. I modified the return manifold so it would fit inside the round cooler. I kept the the same outlet configuration as the last MLT since I'll still take temperature measurements as the wort exits the Mash Tun. I finally brewed a batch with the new Mash Tun and it wasn't pretty. I knocked the Bazooka T off the Kewler Adapter™ in the middle of mashing. (My fault, I didn't attach it properly.) While recirculating things got all clogged up. I had grains throughout the whole system. I had to dump the mash temporarily into my kettle and properly attach the Bazooka screen. The grains ended up clogging the water inlet valve that I use to control the mash flow through the Hot Liquor Tank. I got it unclogged but somehow damaged one valve. I took the valve out of the system and controlled the wort flow manually. The rest of the brewing session went more smoothly.
