Norprene Tubing
I've been using the standard braided tubing you can get at your local hardware store and which works fine. But after a while the high temperatures seem to wear the tubing down and it looses it's rigidity, especially near the quick disconnects. What would happen is the tubing would get soft and bend over on itself and constrict the flow of the liquid inside the tubing. I had cut the braided tubing back a couple of times in different areas and reattached the connectors. This is an easy enough thing to do, but can be a pain if you're in the middle of a brew session and you need to make a repair. Basically the braided tubing isn't rated for the temperatures that I'm subjecting it to (the water exiting my HLT is usually around 185°F.) I broke down and went for some high temp Norprene tubing that I picked up at McMaster-Carr it's part number: 52035K32. It is food grade and rated for 275°F and cost $3.70 a foot. I shouldn't need to replace this stuff anytime soon! This is the same stuff you used to be able to get at movingbrews.com, but they still don't seem to be taking orders.
